Modifications in MD/MS admission process will ensure fairness: Chandigarh health secretary
Candidates of IP Pool eligible under UT Pool will be considered against the UT Pool seats also in case their preferred choice is not available in IP Pool
Clarifying the recent modifications in the counselling process for MD/MS courses at GMCH, Sector 32, UT health secretary Yashpal Garg said the only change made was that an IP Pool candidate will firstly be considered against a seat in the same pool if the desired branch is available.
He said there was no change in the eligibility criteria of Institutional Preference Pool (IP) and the UT Chandigarh Pool (UT Pool). Candidates of IP Pool eligible under UT Pool will be considered against the UT Pool seats also in case their preferred choice is not available in IP Pool.
Garg said earlier an IP Pool candidate was firstly considered against UT Pool seat even though the desired branch was available in IP Pool, which resulted in injustice with UT Pool candidates with higher NEET-PG rank.
On August 4, the health secretary had directed GMCH to revise the counselling process and sequencing promptly for MD/MS admissions for the 2023 session to ensure a completely fair and transparent admission process.
“IP Pool seats are exclusively for IP Pool candidates and UT Pool candidates will be considered against UT Pool seats only. They will not be considered against IP Pool seats,” Garg said.
The MBBS doctors of GMCH-32 have termed the changes “unjust” and demanded roll back of the decision, while the MBBS doctors from Chandigarh have hailed it.
The Chandigarh-based MBBS doctors also held a candle march in Sector 10 on Monday in support of Chandigarh administration’s decision.
Sonu Shergill, a resident of Chandigarh and a mother of an MBBS doctor, said under the previous rule, individuals from the UT Pool with superior merit were often unable to secure seats, as they were occupied by IP Pool students with lower scores.
