MUHS nod to 1,000 UG medical seats
The Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) has approved 1,000 additional seats in eight medical colleges after the seats were initially missing from the first round of selection list for the state Common Entrance Test (CET). These seats will now be available in the second round, raising hopes for students to get into their preferred colleges. Some students are demanding a reallocation of seats from the first round.

Adani Energy Solutions secures $1bn financing for HVDC link project in Mumbai
Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL) has secured financing for its $1 billion green High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) link project in Mumbai. The project aims to supply more renewable power to the city while supporting its rising electricity demand. AESL has achieved $700 million financial closure with nine international banks for the HVDC transmission link between Kudus and Aarey in Mumbai. Construction is set to begin in October 2023. The link will ensure uninterrupted supply of renewable power to Mumbai, which is facing transmission capacity constraints and a fast-rising energy demand.

Private bus operators unwilling to accept BEST fares
According to sources among private bus owners, BEST has been rigid about paying BEST rates to private bus operators who are willing to help out in the crisis. The Undertaking is paying ₹45 to ₹56 per kilometre, depending on whether the bus is air-conditioned or not. Sources said that some private bus operators were charging as much as ₹20 to ₹30 per seat on a few routes that they were operating

The whistle-blower architect who exposed 65 illegal housing projects in Kalyan
Architect Sandeep Patil exposed 65 real estate projects in Kalyan-Dombivli where developers had produced fake commencement certificates to get projects registered with MahaRERA. Patil filed a PIL in the Bombay high court and the Enforcement Directorate has asked for his assistance. The case is still pending in court. Patil has called for stricter regulations and personal site visits by RERA officials to curb illegal constructions.

Disproportionate assets: ED starts scanning benami assets, firms of IRS officer

State warns Aarey tabela owners to clear ₹24-crore dues or lose licences
The state government in Mumbai has warned cattle farm owners in Aarey Colony that their licenses will be cancelled for not paying dues of ₹24 crore ($3.4 million). The farm owners have requested concession in interest and penalty amounts, claiming the government made errors in calculating the total amount. There are currently 505 license holders with over 16,000 animals in 32 cattle farms on 240 acres of land in Aarey. The government levies license fees and water charges to these farm owners.

Aaditya demands end to toll collection on Eastern and Western Express Highway
Shiv Sena MLA Aaditya Thackeray has called on the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to stop collecting toll on the Eastern and Western Express Highways, as their maintenance has been handed over to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Thackeray argues that it is unfair to charge toll when the BMC is already responsible for repairs and maintenance. He has written a letter to the BMC chief on the matter. Thackeray also claims that MSRDC is still collecting revenue from advertising hoardings along the highways, which should now go to the BMC.

Vasai college students await results even 25 days after MU’s declaration
Thirty-eight students from a Vasai-based college are still awaiting results for one subject, despite the University of Mumbai declaring results 25 days ago. The students are approaching the deadline to apply for postgraduate courses. The university claims it has not received the answer sheets, while the examination center insists they have already been submitted. Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar was Shiv Sena spokesperson. He quit the party to join the NCP and later switched to the BJP and contested assembly elections. Wadettiwar was in Shiv Sena and quit the party alongwith Nayaran Rane when the latter walked out with a bunch of MLAs to join the Congress in 2005. Though Rane later shifted to the BJP, Wadettiwar stayed on in the Congress.
