South Korea's government has warned its industrial sector to prepare for damage as Typhoon Khanun approaches the country's shores later this week. The storm is forecast to bring severe rain and wind as it moves through the country and may pose a threat to the nation's capital, Seoul. The typhoon is also expected to hit North Korea, potentially causing damage to crops and farmland. South Korea has already experienced extreme weather this year, including flooding and scorching heatwaves.
A man in Delhi's Jaffarpur Kalan stabbed his neighbour to death, suspecting him of performing 'black magic' on him. The attacker also injured another person who tried to intervene. The suspect was arrested and the police are investigating the motive behind the attack.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will initiate the no-confidence debate against Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. Dengue cases are rising exponentially in the capital and last week the number of cases stood at 105 raising alarm bells to take preventive measures for containing the spread. As per a Hindustan Times report, this tally is the highest number of cases reported till August 5 for at least the last 10 years. Amid the rapid spread of the mosquito-borne illness the vulnerable sections of population should take the required precautions to safeguard their health. This includes pregnant women as they are not only at increased risk of getting infected by dengue, but it can also cause complications for the unborn baby which includes preterm birth and even foetal death.
Derek O'Brien, a Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP, has been suspended for the remainder of the current Monsoon session of Parliament for "unruly behaviour unbecoming of a Member of Rajya Sabha". The suspension comes after a heated argument between O'Brien and Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. Dhankhar accused O'Brien of engaging in theatrics, while O'Brien demanded a serious discussion on Manipur. The Rajya Sabha was adjourned following the suspension order.
A couple in Srinagar has been arrested for impersonating Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers and allegedly scamming people out of lakhs of rupees by promising them jobs. The accused, identified as Manmohan Ganjoo and Ayush Koul Ganjoo, were found in possession of fake transfer and appointment orders, as well as other incriminating evidence. Manmohan Ganjoo is also said to be a suspended police personnel. The police are currently conducting further investigations into the case.
Ambareesh Murty, co-founder of Indian e-commerce platform Pepperfry, has died from a heart attack. Murty, who launched the furniture and home décor company with Ashish Shah in 2012, had previously held leadership roles at eBay India, Levi Strauss India, and Cadbury. Pepperfry has transformed traditional retail norms through its online catalogue, in-house supply chain, and omnichannel presence in over 100 Indian cities.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has questioned whether the BJP or its "brother" was behind a "fake letter" accusing Agriculture Minister N Cheluvarayaswamy of demanding bribes from officials after the Governor asked the government to probe the complaint. The opposition BJP and the JD(S) have been warming up to each other after the recent Assembly elections. In the letter purportedly criticising Cheluvarayaswamy, seven assistant agriculture directors posted in Mandya district have accused the minister of demanding ₹6 to 8 lakh from officers of the department.
Delhi minister Atishi has been given additional charge of the services and the vigilance departments, after Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal forwarded a proposal to L-G VK Saxena for approval. This comes after the Delhi services bill secured parliamentary approval, giving the Centre control over the bureaucracy in the national capital. Atishi already holds 14 portfolios, the most among all ministers in the city government.
A mansion in Alaska collapsed into a river and was swept away by water after millions of gallons were released from a glacier-dammed lake. The building was pulled into the waters after the land around it eroded for six hours. At least two buildings were destroyed, and residents of at-risk properties had to be evacuated. The flooding occurred after a major release from Suicide Basin, which has caused floods since 2011.
The Chhattisgarh government has decided to implement a 58% reservation for Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs), and Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in admissions to all educational institutions in the state. This comes three months after the Supreme Court granted a temporary concession to the government to implement the reservation law. The High Court had previously declared the amendment to the reservation law unconstitutional, but the Supreme Court stayed that decision, allowing the state to proceed with the reservation.

China's exports experienced their largest drop in over two years last month, according to official figures, as the country's economy continues to grapple with weak global demand and a domestic slowdown.
