Sushmita Sen said transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant, on whose life the upcoming web series Taali is based, kissed her forehead after watching it.
Sushmita Sen will be seen essaying the role of transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant in the web series Taali. She told New18 what Shreegauri said to her after watching Taali. The upcoming series chronicles Shreegauri Sawant’s physical transformation, motherhood journey and legal battle that led to the inclusion of the third gender on every official document in India. Shreegauri Sawant’s reaction to Taali
Sushmita Sen told News18, “She (Shreegauri Sawant) came to me, blessed me, kissed my forehead and gave me a gift. She told me, ‘I don’t want to watch. Yeh jo kar rahi hai, sahi kar rahi hai. Yeh meri marble chi murti hai (Whatever she is doing, she's doing fine. She is like my marble statue'."
Sushmita says she has found a friend in Shreegauri
Sushmita also acknowledged Shreegauri’s battles and emphasised that the web series is her way of paying a homage to Shreegauri's life and strength.
Further speaking about her friendship with Shreegauri, Sushmita said, “If I’m sick, she’s the first person to come with a blessing. If I need something, she’ll make it her business to make that happen. She has love like that. That’s love in action and that’s who she is. I find her very inspirational."
Taali trailer
On Monday, Sushmita dropped her web series Taali's trailer alongside the caption, "Gauri aa gayi hai. Apne swabhimaan, sammaan aur swatantrata ki kahaani lekar (Gauri has arrived with her story of self-respect and freedom). Taali – Bajayenge nahi, bajwayenge! (We won't clap but make others clap for us)."
Taali trailer showed transgender activist Shreegauri Sawant's journey from childhood to adulthood, when she went against all odds to fight for the rights of the third gender in India.Taali has been written by Kshitij Patwardhan and directed by Ravi Jadhav.
A couple of weeks ago, Sushmita had also shared the teaser of Taali on Instagram with the caption, “Gaali se Taali tak ke safar ki yeh kahaani (This is the story of a journey from abuses to claps). Presenting the story of Shreegauri Sawant's fight for India's third gender. Taali on JioCinema streaming free from August 15.”
